Black Bean Burgers

Hearty, smoky black bean patties that hold together beautifully and have a satisfying chew. Better than any store-bought veggie burger.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (400g) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 onion, finely grated
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 burger buns, lettuce, tomato, and condiments to serve

Instructions

  1. 1. Pat black beans completely dry with paper towels, then mash in a bowl until mostly smooth with some texture remaining.
  2. 2. Add breadcrumbs, egg, grated onion, garlic, paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix well until combined.
  3. 3. Shape into 2 large patties. Refrigerate for 10–15 minutes to firm up.
  4. 4. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for 4–5 minutes per side until a dark crust forms.
  5. 5. Serve in toasted buns with lettuce, tomato, avocado, and your choice of sauce.
